I hope you get your artists! We have just walked the perimeter of the peninsula, including Grain, and found it to be a stunning place. The majority of people we spoke to beforehand gave us the impression that it was unpleasant and ugly - not so! May your artists find their inspiration - we certainly did!

The Farningham Hobby Horse project 2011-2012

The Farningham Hobby Horse Project was launched in June 2011 as part of the Kent Cultural Baton and the Kent Cultural Olympiad. A true community project it reflects the present village while connecting it to its past self.
FHHP re-created an ancient Horse Fair once held in the village of Farningham with hobby horses made by villagers and their friends. Residents were given plywood blanks and invited to return a hobbyhorse which reflected their maker, who they were, and what they did.
An amazing response allowed us to curate an extraordinary installation of 120 creative, colourful, horses which effectively replicated the village community. Participants ranged in age from 4 to 90 and included all the village institutions.
The Farningham Hobby Horse Project is now travelling around Kent until June 2012 when the horses will be returned to their makers.

Do contact us if you would like to host the horses:
frannyswann@hotmail.com

The project is brought to you by Franny Swann and Ros Barker - installation project artists working with memory and memorial.

Hi All

The horses are on the move!

The Farningham Hobby Horse Project is now travelling around Kent - until June 2012.
Catch us at the Whitstable Oyster Festival, the Lavender Fields, Bromley Arts Centre, the Shoreham Heavy Horse Fair, the Folkstone Triennial Fringe, the Ramsgate Squall ........................etc

See our calendar on http://www.farninghamhobbyhorseproject.phanfare.com for dates and further venues...............

Do YOU have an art event in Kent that would like to invite 120 zany, quirky, colourful, beautifully crafted hobby horses to attend? We need soft ground, ability to get cars close to unload and an hour to install. Health and Safety risk assessment and £5 million public liability............we invigilate.

Really fantastic! Well done Franny and Ros (sorry that sounds a bit patronising!) for conceiving an idea which has engaged and inspired local people to join in. And that's not easy!
